G Drives towards launch ? UPDATED

Google's GDrive service has been spoken about all of the place, including here at TW.

But could it be moving closer to a product launch? Looking at some recent domain transfers it could well be. Garret Rogers at ZDnet has noticed there have been some interesting domain transfers happening over the last few days.

GDrive.us was transferred to Google on Thursday — I don't understand why they are snapping up so many of these domains unless it will be available to the public eventually. They currently own Gdrive.com/org/biz/us/ca/co.uk/eu/de/jp and probably more

UPDATE - Google Dashboard true story

Our very own Ed, Michael AKA Graywolf gave the domain to Google. Full story at URL linked above (and below in comments) so the original post below this is bollocks :)

Could Google also be going after the Mac Desktop?

Another interesting transfer on Wednesday was GoogleDashboard.com — it was previously registered to someone in New York. The only thing I can imagine this domain representing is Google ramping up development for Apple's Dashboard on OSX — they already have a few dashboard widgets, maybe we will see more soon?

Let's take a step back and look at the bigger picture for a second. I believe the greatest dominance Google have isn't search but their file system. I work with clustered computers extensively and the biggest pain the butt I have is a "great" global file system. Google have it, I don't!

Could the G Drive Service (if it launches) give the world access to unlimited data storage? Will G Drive will the new name for a public release of their GFS file system?

We can but wait and see......

Psst - was one of Michael's domains - he transfered it to Google voluntarily, by his account, to avoid potential future legal issues:

fast

you guys beat me to it, just read this post in bloglines and first thought was someone doesn't read the graywolf blog and it needs to be added...although seeing the same link 3 times probably dictates that it's not required a 4th. If I was Michael though I'd be insulted, "someone from NY" is a bit rough!
