Google Gives Free Pizza for Spreading The Google Kool Aid

Google has a new program called the Google Ambassador program where they give away pizza and Google swag to one member on campus who spreads the Google love ...

Ambassador responsibilities:

* Representing Google at your university for the academic year.
* Organizing study breaks for up-and-coming software engineers who are toiling away in computer labs late at night.
* Impressing your friends with your Google gear!

Ambassador requirements:

* Computer science major or related fields
* One-year commitment
* Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible
* Excellent study habits and pizza-eating skills
* Ability to recruit other pizza-eaters, and keep them happy, one pizza at a time

I actually think this is a pretty cool idea showing some outside of the box grass roots thinking. If it were my project I'd send the ambassador cases of free shirts as well to give away. Ask everyone to wear them on specific day, post pictures online, post videos on youtube and Google video and hold an informal contest and reward the most creative submissions with a visit/speech from a Google employee.

Sorry to be a downer but thats not new thats been around for sometime. I agree though, it is pretty cool.

the ambassador program

the ambassador program appears to be very successful, it even got non-Brazilians to use orkut :)

it may not be a new idea but it is still a nice project that helps both parties involved.

This program has been going

This program has been going on for a while. Years?

I remember...

Back in the day we had to buy our own pizzas. Computers were so expensive, and modems were so slow, we had to go to a place called the "lab" to work on our projects.

Kids today are all SOFT. They'll never be good programmers.

Give them something that

Give them something that matters: a free laptop. Or a plane ticket to somewhere nice for spring break.

Does that have anything to do with the proliferation of javascript?

On a related note, in NYC there are people walking around with front/back battery-laden vests containing 15" LCD monitors. Like Sign Wavers, they walk the streets exposing their advertising to passersby. Like Google Ambassadors, they represent an engagement of the people into the brand. They also seem to represent yet another low-or-no wage "job" avalable to college students.

Again, probably not new but I hadn't seen it.
