AT&T to Launch Web TV Service

From the Financial Times comes news that AT&T is getting into the WebTV business:

AT&T, the biggest US telecommunications group, is to launch an internet TV service that will enable subscribers to view a selection of live and streamed TV channels on their PC over any wired or wireless broadband connection for $20 a month.

With all the big search players fighting to host your content for free you have to wonder if these telecom companies have similar plans, or if they are just going to keep pushing top down, falling back on the monopoly card if they fail to compete on innovating.

Who better to buy YouTube than a telecom or cable company (if they wanted to dive into the web content distribution arena)?
