Having gone through layoffs long ago, its rough to go through, especially with such a huge number of layoffs. I feel for those folks.
Even though I own a bit of

whenever I see an AOL CD I still have the same policy I always did
take (at least) one, and throw it away

Internet rust belt
Repeat of the industrial fall out of late 60's, early 70's.
The early ones out have a better chance of getting some job in another tech area.
Face it, consolidation, outshoring, automization will continue to have a enormous affect within this tech sector.
I have been through this type of tech swing in the 90's in a different market. Thats why I am doing what I do today.
