Google Search Finds Widespread Malicious Code
WMW appears to have gone tabloid , and has this story from Computer Weekly about the germs and diseases you can pick from following Google searches.
... the results included “thousands of pieces of malicious binaries, mostly posted to newsgroups with false names that would normally trick a user”.It added,” We found many on forum sites, as well as regular personal, educational, compromised, and underground sites.”
The search revealed variants of the Bagel and Mytob worms, Trojan horses and other malware. It also turned up “several pieces of spywaren in internet poker and casino websites.
The researchers said, “While we do not believe that the fact that Google is indexing binary file contents is a large threat this is further evidence of rise in websites being used as an method of storing and distributing malicious code.”
I am not convinced that this is pointing out anything that I did not know before, but is being put out as news. Looks as if BT is after the TW market!.

"less noise more signal" means that you don't post shit like this.
"status: error:5 Login
"status: error:5 Login required from your ISP due to robotic abuse from your fellow ISP users. .de"
That's all I got from the WMW link.
hey look over THERE
Yes it's ThreadWatch. No, it's not WMW.
"hey look at this, it's shiite" is fine.
"hey look at this shiite" is not.
Through my cynical spectacles I doubt too many modern TW'ers will know the difference. It ain't the same as it ever was no more.
I think audience reaction is
I think audience reaction is typically the difference between shite and not shite, but you can't always predict how people will respond or the appropriate spin to put on a story for optimal response.
TW is a lot more decentralized than it used to be, and that is largely for two reasons
- I would go insane if I read RSS 16 hours a day for another year or two
- The mods typically do a pretty good job picking up everything that is important, IMHO.
I sometimes post shite, and so does everyone. If we waited to be certain that every thread was a 100% winner in the eyes of everyone we probably would have no bad posts. But then we would have no posts either.
I like most of Cornwall's threads and thought this one was funny.
