Setting aside the "link spam" conspiracy theories and arguments, I think since it would be easy enough for any of the search engines to "identify and punish" sites that use networks like this, I'd say it's not worth the risk to do these sorts of things.
It looks so professional when they put a picture of Dr. Evil from Austin Powers when you put their site. I dont know about you guys, but I would think they would have a tool that gives out legitimate information every time...but then again, they are selling those links.
