That AdamGuy Really Was A Google Mole
Mr Cutts blog today welcomes Adam Lasnik back in from the cold. Google have hired Adam, as a leg man for Matt. For those of you with shorter memories than mine, re-read this TW thread WMW members suspect a Google Mole in which Adam is named as a Google mole over a year ago (Feb 2005).
Adam denies it in that thread.
As long as we settle on:
1) I'm NOT a Google employee.
2) I believe in what I say. I didn't start fights here just to be a twit, though in the end, I admit that perception matters.
3) I either don't give a whit about being popular or I just made a crappy entrance here or both...
Matt today announces
I kept my eyes open for people that I’d seen around the web and respected. I wanted someone with knowledge of search and who was intelligent, nice, patient, and well-spoken. When I saw that Adam was available, I invited him down to lunch, and I liked him a lot.So a couple of months ago, he went through the interview process and Adam joined Google. We look a little bit similar, but we have different backgrounds. I’m a computer science guy; he’s got an MBA and a law degree. I know a ton about search, but not as much about Adwords these days. Adam had more experience with AdWords when he joined Google, but in the last couple months he’s been ramping up fast on websearch.
My hope is that Adam will help Google listen more, and will also grow into answering webmaster questions. We sent him to WMW Boston to soak up what Pubcons are like, and he’ll be at SES London as well. Sure, it will take time for him to ramp up, but he’s already been helping me a lot. For example, he’s been going through the WMW Boston emails and replying to them. He’s been handling outside email to me that I wouldn’t get a chance to respond to. Over the next couple months, we’re also going to throw Adam into our intensive training to become a webspam warrior. Plus he’s got my RSS feed list, and we’ve been practicing the fine art of spotting reports of good bug reports, and deciding who at Google to harass about them.
At least TW readers can rest easy in their beds that Matt is unlikely to find anyone else here that is "intelligent, nice, patient, and well-spoken" I understand you need to fulfill all those four to get the call from Matt (Matt, for the records, I am intellegent and well spoken anyway).
Have we any other moles, suspect moles? Your thoughts will be archived by Google and we can look again in a year. Whatever happened to "thatNickguy"

LOL
Too funny...
As I mentioned in the post,
As I mentioned in the post, Adam joined Google only a couple months ago. Lots of people here are intelligent and well-spoken. Several are nice, and a few are patient. Anyone else meet all four criteria? :)
BTW, DaveN is disqualified because no one can understand him. He might be being nice, but you can't really tell, can you? :)
I confess
I've been on LookSmart's payroll for three years. At least that's what they tell me, even though there's been some computer error and I haven't received my first check yet.
Have Wit Will Travel
Now if Google had openings for a cheeky, cynical, sarcastic employee TW might be able to offer up some good candidates ;-)
I think having a slight resemblance to Caray Elwes or Andre the Giant should have been part of the criteria too ...
how many
forum posts will now be employment auditions in disguise?
employment auditions
Been that way for a long time now...
you guys need an employee to flame people
but one might not be enough...you might need a site full of cheeky people.
hire Threadwatch as the next Google mole :)
Should have realised I was
Should have realised I was off the list when Matt posted he was dissapointed in me and he'd look at my posts in a different light in the future :-p
Gee, what did I do wrong? :-D
@graywolf
You've never had me.
PS: I'm impatient. BLAST!
well frankly I'm hurt
I mean I can write entire blogs like Google employees and Matt still won't hire me???
But...
But Gurtie...are you NICE???
erm...
erm... the important thing is I'm not taking actions I think are un-nice and in terms of my own views I'm behaving very nicely ;)
erm... the important thing
NICE try, Gurtie. ;)
However, it would be cool getting an elite covert GH operative working at the Plex with their very own secret decoder ring and shoe phone.
> a cheeky, cynical, sarcastic employee
That often describes me pre-coffee. In particular, I'm still adjusting from independent-contractor hours to corporate-work (+ commute) hours.
Looking forward to meeting some* of you in London soon...
- Adam
P.S. -- Henceforth I'll be posting under the more boring but more direct nickname of, well, my full name. ThatAdamGuy is so 2005.
*P.P.S. -- You can interpret that as you wish :D
Q
> shoe phone
you have to be kidding me? Ruin my Jimmy Choos by installing a phone? I'm sticking with the homeing pigeon.....
I always thought you smelt
I always thought you smelt funny Adam.
When I saw that Adam was
I wonder how many people will suddenly make it known that they're available :P
slyolddog
I can gaurantee that he will do anything for money...........Sly you will have to get a better body though:)
Doug
I have the money Doug
I resemble that remark :)
I wasn't a member of TW a year ago, but...
...assumably, Adam wasn't an employee when that old thread accused him of being a Google mole. (I'm just replying to the initial note on this thread.)
I'm too worn out by the rat-race today to go back and look at the earlier thread cited, but what makes one a "Google mole"?!?
The mole term suggests a spy, but that just seems funny in context of information posted to a public forum like this.
So now its goodbye
So now its goodbye ThatAdamGuy welcome Adam Lasnik
WMW Thread message 167
The original accusation of Adam being a Google spy got (would you believe) edited out on the WMW thread. Adam responds to the accusation (that by now has been removed). Basically someone made the accusation in a heated forum debate on "Google autolink"
Don't you just love the caching of everything ever written on the web!
