Microsoft Certified Doorway Page Spam Generator

Microsoft is working the spam angle! ... If you go to the Internet Explorer 7 beta download page there is a link "Do more with Internet Explorer 7" which goes to a new Microsoft site IEAddons:

The whois shows this as an official MS site, but strangely it is hosted on a 1&1 server not on the usual MS network.

From the IE Addons site: "The add-ons available here have been carefully screened by Microsoft".

Approved addons include:

Alexa Booster has been designed to simulate real online visitors and also simulating referrals to your site. It will improve your Alexa and search engine rankings. The Alexa Booster software will boost your Alexa rankings but it will also help increase your Google listings as well. To sum it up, the Alexa Booster is aimed at increasing your online business. Version 3.2 features a built-in referral system with a wizard and a built-in scanner.

Price: $24.95

Or even better:

Doorway Page Wizard guides you through a step by step process to create highly optimized doorway pages for your website. Doorway pages contain keywords and Meta-Tags that describe your website and are optimized to the search parameters of leading engines. They help improving ranking in search engines. Each Doorway page is specially tuned to a particular keyword search. This is a proven and effective way to increase traffic to your Web site. Doorway Page Wizard can create hundreds of doorway pages in a matter of minutes, a task if manually done will take many hours if not days to complete and a lot of hard work.

Price: $49.95

So Microsoft are now actively promoting and selling doorway-page creation tools, Alexa-boosters, etc.

There are several other programs they are selling in the "Developer Tools" section which probably violate Google's terms and conditions and MSN Search's guidelines as well. :)

Anything for a buck, eh?

Thanks to an anonymous TW tipster for the laugh.

MS also Promotes Piracy and Scraping

Just about wrecked the chair cushion when I saw this!

Offline Browsers

Quickly and efficiently download entire sites or sections of a site for viewing and browsing when you are not connected to the Internet.

It's obvious they don't "get it"...

Well I am Yahoo Amabasador

Well I am Yahoo Amabasador and Google Advertising Professional...am just wondering if qualifying as a Microsoft Certified Spam Engineer disqualifies me for the others?

Maybe Microsoft is trying to take a unique path!

Operation Destroy Google

Once they destroy Google's ability to efficiently provide decent serps thanks to the widespread use of doorway pages, microsoft will step in and provide the solution. It looks like Microft's war against Google is going to get dirty. Extraordinarilly strange, I can't imagine how many people had to sign off on this, it has to be orchestrated.

More likely would just end up filling MSN with doorway pages - isn't Google much better at filtering this sort of content out?

Split Personality.

You have to remember that MS has a duality with their software developers vs MSN search and they have to try to appease everyone. Very similar to the Google duality where the SE group tries to whack spam and scraping from the SE while the AdWords/AdSense group just counts the money and laughs all the way to the bank.

Fantastic!

Looks like the direction of some things at Microsoft are just as messy as their search results.

Regarding nynerd_com's comment - I have a feeling Microsoft is more susceptible to indexing problems associated with doorway pages than Google. People are spamming the hell out of MSN with doorway pages, Blogger redirects, and redirected domains. I bet that wide adoption of the Doorway Page Wizard will only drive MSN's result further down the toilet.

Good times.

We may have to invite Bill

MS like forum spamming too!

Other good ones include Anonymous Forum Buddy:

Quote:
Anonymous Forum Buddy masks the IP address by routing your traffic through foreign anonymous proxies. This way you can surf, read mail, news, participate in newsgroups without revealing your real IP address. More, Anonymous Forum Buddy has posting possibilities, meaning that you will be able to interact with Web pages, post messages on forums without being banned or kicked out, use searches, cast votes.

Yay, forum spamming tools from Microsoft!

If you click a DL for some of the freebie stuff the files come straight from software-files.download.com - the site appears to be a front-end for a CNet collection - MS are resorting to affiliate marketing, I guess that Bill is feeling a bit short this month, must be cos it's tax time!

Yes they are, but these would be generated by Microsoft proprietary software which they would have the 'skeleton key' for, these would be Microsoft Doorway Pages, so my theory was that they would have no problem with them, while Google would. Just a theory, there has to be some sort of strategy at play.

MS Doorway TM

hehe ;-)

accuracy of whois data ...

I can't really tell if the posters above me are serious.

But, I would remind everyone that at most registrars you can plugin just about any old piece of info when registering a domain. The name
on the cc doesn't even have to match. AVS just wants the digits.

So, all the registrant had to do was lookup microsoft.com whois details, pick a first and last name, make up an email address, and they're good to go.

For all you know, based on whois data, unless microsoft confirms ownership, I could own the domain.
