FYI it works on other domains (google.co.uk and friends) as well, but you need to change the domain at the end of the string.

to me that technology seems like it needs a bit of work if for a branded term it is highly recommending so many of the vertical databases like that

Nice thing about all the other databases is that since they are semi structured with less global information they should be easier to spam. wonder if Matt can help us get into Google News? Not sure if this post hurt us on that front though ;)

it sux

Now how do i get rid of it.

I saw the same thing posted at wmw and checked it out then... actually seen that ui (or something very similar) before that too.

I think that maybe because Australia was founded as a convict settlement Google also thinks they can try stuff out in the cheep seats here too.

We often get weird stuff from Google they are 'trying out.' I'll have to get a screen shot next time and post it here for you.

I don't get the green bars

I don't see what the green bars are supposed to mean. If this is a new user interface, it sucks because it tells the user nothing.

green bars are demand /

green bars are demand / relevancy based on other searchers habbits.

AdWords ads used to have them in the way back.

yeah, well...

will the avergae Joe know what to make of those green bars? To them it truly means nothing. Maybe more green means click me?

code

javascript:alert(document.cookie="PREF=ID=fb7740f107311e46:TM=1142683332:LM=1142683332:S=fNSw6ljXTzvL3dWu;path=/;domain=.google.com")

so..ok..I'm trying to figure

so..ok..I'm trying to figure this out..

For example, you look up 'threadwatch' in the search box. There is a small green bar next to "froogle". Curious, I click it and get a "Your search - threadwatch - did not match any products in Froogle."

All that does is piss me off because it wastes my time. If there is nothing in froogle for threadwatch, why is there a green bar?

It is clear to me these people know nothing about usability. This is stupid.

as Milli Vanilli would say...

"Blame it on the Beta"

They do have some work to make this thing, make sense.

Wacky

Took a look and it's obvious someone handed out some psychadelic mood enhancers at the plex.

Almost broke the keyboard banging on it so fast to get thru the list looking for the right cookie to remove.

OK, we've seen it...

NEXT!

i agree with what techcrunch

i agree with what techcrunch had to say about this:

Furthermore, it makes no sense that Google would not incorporate blog search results into the sidebar along with froogle, images, news, etc.

Freeing up vertical space

I assume they're trying to free up more vertical space for the search results, which have been getting crowded out because of the other things they keep adding at the top and bottom of the results page.

the green bar ...

means the ads over here are underperforming, please help out.

wonder if Matt can help us

wonder if Matt can help us get into Google News?

Again? ;)
