Congress (and most of you based on recent posts) misses the point that all these high tech companies have no influence until the get inside the Great Wall.
It's easier to try to flex your muscles for freedom of information from the inside once you've gained their trust and garnered a large market share than it is when you're sitting on the curb on the outside.
IMO Congress knows that, but by pretending otherwise it allows them to beat someone up and standup for Democracy while actually not changing the status quo.
if i were a US-based firm and had congressional committees spitting blood --particularly when they are actively searching for populist cannon-fodder for the upcoming midterm campaigns.
Brinn:Damn, where's Cutts when you need him? I thought he was supposed to go spread some cheery fud on those congressmen? What?!?!! He was with WebGuerrilla and Oilman instead!
I love how everyone takes every chance they get to take a shot at the PRC in front of cameras.
Meanwhile the same PRC props up our economy (ever shop at Wal-Mart? or.... anywhere else?) and finances a huge amount of the investment here (who is the largest holder of US currency in the world? Duh, the PRC).
I'm starting to get annoyed at everyone shooting their mouth off at the PRC...
1) they're completely ignorant about china (though that's to be expected)
2) they're entirely hypocritical, since behind their rhetoric every concrete action they make is strengthening the PRC & its ties with the US
populist cannon-fodder for the upcoming midterm campaigns.
exactly, that's all this is.

IncrediBILL, I might go out on a limb here and guess you've never been to China? Sure guanxi buys you some maneuvreability and forgiveness here and there, but flexing your muscles gets you no where with the Party :-)
Had a chance to go once and declined due to scheduling issues, but when my buddy got back from a 2 week trip to China he had black gunk draining from his sinuses for a week just from all the pollution he encountered in the cities.
I'd take clean air over a free internet any day of the week.
I guess my stance is that it shouldn't be the responsibility of a company to pass on the political views of the administration. While I may not agree on the things China does, it is their country and battles should be waged by their own people. If you want to do business in someone else's backyard, you have to play by their rules. I would expect to abide by the city ordinances of any town I moved a business to.
As for censorship, didn't we just kick the mother of a dead soldier out of a building for wearing a t-shirt that our government didn't like?
Who openly visits enemies of her country. Yeah, a great American there...
Yes our arch enemy and hated Venezuelans. Perhaps they are enemies of Bush and his administration, but not of most people. They just said what most of the world already knows, Bush is an idiot.
That may be, but what popular politician isn't? (Bush and Kerry did about the same at Yale)... and it still doesn't change Sheehan from being a Moonbat.
They just said what most of the world already knows, Bush is an idiot.
Do you think a Dem will win the next U.S. election?
it's one thing to be dumb -- it's another thing to be a complete and utter mindless idiot, and the worst president in the history of the US (and that's a fairly competitive title to have won).
As long as neither party puts forth anything better that is what we're stuck with. I am still shocked that the Dems selected Kerry. He didn't come across as trustworthy and now it comes out that his claims of high intelligence aren't that high after all.
I think John Edwards would have beaten Bush nationally, but he couldn't get past the establishment in his own party.
Do you think a Dem will win the next U.S. election?
I really don't think they'll win this year to take over either the House or Senate. I'm not a Democrat either by the way. As idiot and stupid as Bush's policies are, he atleast has them and sticks by them. Most of the Democrats I see now just complain and really offer no alternative.
As for the next Presidential election, who knows? I couldn't fathom how people voted for Bush this past election. A lot can change in the world over the next few years so it's really hard to say.
I also agree that he is the worst President in our nation's history. Quite sad actually.

yep, that's how it seemed to me, too. they used daly-esque crowd control; contain/restrain/detain.

Worst?
How soon you all forget mama's boy Jimmy Carter!
I had to leave the room every time he came on TV, his whiny assed voice was worse than acid reflux.
Then again, Gerald Ford was pretty sad too.
Spiro Who?
