Google Better Than Yahoo For Online Advertisers ?

SEO Training.

SEW has a link to a survey on advertisers perceptions of return on advertising on Google, Yahoo and MSN by Outsell (there appears to be nothing on the Outsell site about it). One of those annoying surveys that it difficult to make anything of. It says that 1200 advertisers, with an average budget of around $4 million believe that G is "more efffective" for their adverts.

Quote:
a survey to 1,200 advertisers in November. About 71 percent of respondents said that search ads on Google were effective, compared to 62 percent who considered search ads on Yahoo effective and 49 percent who thought MSN search ads were effective.

Search me as to what it means in real terms. Why are advertisers reaching these conclusions, who is responding within the advertisers companies, are they all using the same yardstick, are they talking about measurable click-throughs or is it brand advertising,.....

All Abour Perception

To hell with measuring eh? I mean why bother, as long as you 'feel' Google performs better. That little survey is content free, except that advertisers feel better about Google. I'd like to ask a few questions of the participants.

If stories like those are

If stories like those are true and spread then that just means Google's AdWords pricing will become more competitive, and the better spend will be elsewhere.

Theory...

IMO, this survey shows that, of 1200 large advertisers, 29% don't know how to use AdWords, 38% don't know how to use YSM, and 51% don't know how to use AdCenter. It makes sense: AdWords can be somewhat difficult to master, YSM's system is crap, and AdCenter is brand new and still doesn't work in Firefox.

That's interesting. I've

That's interesting. I've found in most industries that my ROI is MUCH better at Yahoo than Google simply because Google's ads are usually more expensive.

I participate in only a few

I participate in only a few industries on the paid side, but I find Yahoo! much cheaper as well due to how inefficient their ad system is and how much less reach they have than Google (in the verticals I participate in).

Many longtail terms go for a dime in Yahoo! where you end up paying $3 to $5 for the same click at Google.
