Good luck

Good luck with that aaron.

For those unaware, the owner of this site (who also writes www.seobook.com) is being sued by these folks. There's more details over at www.seobook.com. And you might consider dropping a few bucks to help him out with his lawyers fees if you're so inclined. I did, and many others in the community have as well.

{this space left open for self-deleted lengthy article on my experiences with TP. I typed it all out then deleted it. Probably best to do that; if you do comment, stick to facts not opinions, speculation, or commentary. No sense causing more problems}

Actually if you are going to

Actually if you are going to donate send it to TrafficPowerSucks.com. he probably needs the funds a bit more than I do right now. He has a donation button right on the home page
http://www.trafficpowersucks.com/
He really could use a few bucks. It fields sorta weird that so many people donated to help me out and so few donated to help him out.

A rather large portion of the donations I got went toward helping TrafficPowerSucks. My legal fees have been around $20,000 so far, but luckily my ebooks have been selling like hot cakes recently and I have made funds off a bunch of other various projects and whatnot.

Made a small donation -

Made a small donation - certainly a worthy cause. I hope they kick butt.

What pisses me off

the most about this case is Google's silence. We all read GoogleGuy's comments on WmW. And we all know he was talking about TP. But he never actually mentioned TP by name. So now, a handful of people who had the balls to stand up and and tell people the name of the company are now taking all the heat.

All that needs to happen to make all of this go away is for Google to make a definitive statement confirming the fact that they did indeed ban TP clients because of the SEO tactics used by TP.

Unfortunately, Google seems to only step up and do the right thing when there's an opportunity to generate some great PR. (like telling the DOJ to fuck off)

Well I feel sorry for the

Well I feel sorry for the mug who bought their services froma cold call. There's one born every minute, but Aaron I read your blog and it looks like character asasination to me. You make statements like "I did not buy their services, thus I did not get screwed by Traffic Power."

That's libel man, unless you can prove you would have been screwed.

Just to make clear my motivations, I never heard of Traffic power before I read this thread and I don't care what happens to them.

Traffic Power

I learned about traffic power when I was trying to figure out why so many competitors in an industrial area were ranking above the company I work for. A little investigation led me to discover the spam tactics that T P was using. The sites were indeed ranking number 1 in Google and were no doubt profiting from it. So while the site owners may have been unaware of the sleezy tactics used by TP, they did rank above my company and profit from it. They deserved to be banned for awhile. I don't see anyone complaining about the profits they made while they were taking the number 1 ranking away from a site that deserved it.
Don't get me wrong, I think TP and companies like it are pure scum, but the people who chose to use them deserve some of the blame.

Thanks

Thanks for the update Aaron. Donated. I really don't get the mentality of TP. By suing people they are just getting more bad publicity than if they quietly went about their business.

And, on the topic of "information needed", wouldn't the BBB report on TP be handy?

Google

Yep, I was thinking the same thing. Perhaps they can be subpoenaed or something?

That's libel man, unless you can prove you would have been screwed.

You don't know how many emails I read covering certain topics and the script that was read to me when they cold called me.

also that was answering the following question

Why would another SEO company claim to have gotten screwed by them?

and the answer was

The SEO companies are not the people getting screwed. It is all the random webmasters who get cold called and buy their services. Traffic Power cold called me. I did not buy their services, thus I did not get screwed by Traffic Power.

If you want to read up on character assasination the contents of the various fake SEO forums that were created and mysteriously disappeared in the middle of this case would be of interest. Or maybe the fake site that someone created about a person who runs a well known SEO directory.

Notice how mumbles is a brand new member to Threadwatch and their first post is in a thread about Traffic Power. They leave no URLs or keyword phrases...just something about how their competitors were making so much money.

I do not know if that feedback is real or fake, but I did notice a pattern across many websites where feedback like that was from brand new members to the community, and when further questions were asked those members had nothing to offer but silence.

Track IPs

I assume your software tracks the IPs of those posts, if not maybe you can get them from your log files.

If they all come from one location that's a slam dunk but I can't imagine they aren't using an anonymous proxy. Ok, I can imagine it, but that would be REALLY STUPID!

Good luck with this Aaron, let me know if you need any knee caps busted.

Way to go, Matt!

Way to go, Matt!

Yay

Thank you for that, Matt.

I'm just a bystander but it's good to see you stand up for what's true.

That's GREAT!

Just what was needed. WTG, Matt!

A welcome post from Matt

Sends out a message that is clear, concise and to the point.

Y+The thread is continued at http://www.threadwatch.org/node/5606

I bet they didn't see that coming

Thanks Matt!

Calling TP on the carpet and directing uninformed TP clients to info on reinclusion.

U rock pal!

Tip of the hat

Another example of how, if a big company is gonna do the right thing, it often comes down to one person's desire to make that thing happen. Excellent. Just excellent.

Matt confirms traffic-power.com is under penalty

Matt confirms traffic-power.com is under penalty over the weekend on his personal blog http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/confirming-a-penalty/ .

He addressed the two follow assertions of Traffic Power and their claims that these two following assertions are false and defamatory.

The false and defamatory information includes but is not limited to the following:

a. Claims that the search engine giant Google has banned and is banning from its search engine listings websites of Traffic-Power.com clients because of the search engine optimization strategies used by Plaintiff.

b. Claims that clients of Traffic-Power.com run the risk of being banned from Google search engine listings if they use Traffic-Power.com services;

Matt here is speaking "in my official capacity as head of the webspam group at Google" and notes that his post has been "reviewed by Google’s lawyers".

Here is what he said:

I’d like to address those two points. I can confirm that Google has removed traffic-power.com and domains promoted by Traffic Power from our index because of search engine optimization techniques that violated our webmaster guidelines at http://www.google.com/webmasters/guidelines.html. If you are a client or former client of Traffic Power and your site is not in Google, please see my previous advice on requesting reinclusion into Google’s index to learn what steps to take if you would like to be reincluded in Google’s index.

He also closed the comments and pointed posters to SearchEngineWatch Forum and this thread.

I never thought I would get excited over Google confirming a "SEO Firm" was under a penalty but I got a big smile out of this one. I just feel sorry for all there clients that got banned over there "Stupid Hat" practices.

I think that Google has stuck there neck out here on this one and I applaude them.

Matt Cutts you are the man!

Yes, Aaron had posted that
