Refer Publishers to Google, Get the Shaft*

SEO Training.

The conditional $100 AdSense referral payout was a joke for many reasons:

  • No matter how much is earned the max payout is only $100 for the referral.
  • Poor publishers (say 99% of the people participating in AdSense) will likely give it up before they even get to $100.
  • Google doesn't even disclose what percent of publishers make that mark or what percent they get paid.

As if that wasn't enough of a reason to avoid Google's broken affiliate scheme, Google just added another reason to the laundry list. A blink-and-you-miss-it* 90 day requirement.

They have now instituted a 90-day time limit on that referral, meaning a referred publisher must earn the $100 within the first 90 days, before the referring publisher is eligible to earn that $100 for a completed AdSense referral.

What percent of AdSense account holder even make $1 a day? What percent make that for the first 90 days straight?

- Y! MyWeb

Total joke

Those just starting definitely won't make it. Only good for old blackhats creating their umptieth account ;-)

Maybe that's the point -

Maybe that's the point - anyone who gets awarded this goes straight on Matt's checklist? I wonder how many trainees will turn themselves in for $100? :D

This is new?

You all are slow to notice trends as I called this affiliate program BULLSHIT almost two months ago to the day.

My guesstimate was that a crappy site would take about 3 months to collect $100 and you wouldn't see a penny for almost 6 months, if ever, and it made no sense that Google would pay out all it earned over 3 months on a clinker.

Google just confirmed my theory and nailed the lid in the "if ever" coffin.

Thanks for keeping up guys!

Threw us a bone

This was just Google's way of throwing webmasters a bone for bitching about not having an affiliate program for so long. The program does suck. However, Google really doesn't need an affiliate program.

Pheh. Don't you call everything BS, Bill? ;-)

No John

I don't call everything BS, just those things that don't pass the sniff test.

My AdSense checks, AdSense EFT, ok we'll just call them AdSense PAYMENTS never get called BS, not ever.

However, the holiday ad blocks that made it hard to read, the "advertise on this site", the site targetting, and the AdSense and FireFox referral programs get awarded the pile from the stank end of the bull, BS.

Actually cows do it too but somehow bulls just seem to get all the publicity.

If its that bad

and you think adsense is so evil, why dont you use YPN or bidclix instead. You have passed enough adverse comments on WMW towards google why do you carry on using adsense ?

EVIL?

Don't you dare put the E work in my mouth as I'm not one of those Google is Evil conspiracists and that will do nothing but piss me off.

I didn't even say AdSense was bad, pay attention.

I said the last good thing they've done was AdLinks and all this new stuff is just mud they're slinging at the wall trying to get something to stick. It's been one long stream of thrashing and I've had to opt out of a bunch of stuff just to keep my revenues from tanking with garbage CPM ads from running on my site.

Don't get me wrong, I love AdSense, I just think they've lost focus and are spinning their wheels lately doing things that aren't as important like AdLinks was. Not only that but I've said a lot of NON-ADVERSE things about AdSense too so if you missed the good threads on WMW then you weren't paying too much attention.

As a matter of fact someone from Google even referred to one of my threads on AdLinks raising my revenue substantially at PubCon in New Orleans so painting me with a broad cynical brush won't work but it was a nice try.

Did you think FireFox referrals was a good idea?

Don't lie now...

BTW, YPN isn't ready for primetime yet IMO but it's a cute toy but I'm not willing to toy around with my AdSense revenue and what the hell is bidclix?

but I've said a lot of

lol Bill but you're only remembered for your last post ;-)

Amen.

If it's that bad and you

If it's that bad and you think adsense is so evil, why dont you use YPN or bidclix instead.

So calling their affiliate program crap is an insult to all of Adsense, the wider Google, Brin's mother, and the entire population of China?

Adsense started off as a great program, and improved with several innovations since then ... but the affiliate program is a joke. Also, Adsense has scope for further improvement.

Or is it the case that if you earn money from Adsense you've got to praise everything that comes out of the plex?

Off topic

Threadwatch really could do with a reputation voting system, mute button, or kick feature :)

Back on topic.
Is it really that hard to get paid, I’ve had two non web savvy friends with new legit sites add AdSense and easily make the $100. They were going to sign up anyway, but figured Google owed me for ignoring my own AdSense sites :)
