Google rules Britain?

The Inquirer reports on a BBC Radio 4 poll on who or what runs Britain. You can vote here on the BBC site . The winner will be announced Monday 2nd January 2006 live on air. The BBC have it whittled down to a short list of 10 that you can vote for.

The 10 on the short list:-
Jose M. Barroso, president of the €U;
Terry Leahy from Tesco
Gordon Brown, the Scottish purse holder
Tony Blair, the exiting Prime Minister;
Google Pagerank
Sir Gus O'Donnell, head of the British Mandarins
Rupert Murdoch from News Corp
the British Parliament
the British People
Shami Chakrabarti, the director of Liberty.

It is a reflection of the times that G are on the short list. Somehow I don't think that G will win, but you never know. I cast my vote to see if it showed how the voting was going, but it doesn't.

It does make an interesting

It does make an interesting statement though. If you consider whoever controls what people read also controls to some extent what opinion the majority of people form about an issue...

Google has the power to control to some extent what non-techie people find on the Internet and thus read.

Flamebait

Big flaw: Radio 4 listeners don't know what the Internet is.

*ahem*

Radio 4 is great!
