UK ISP Nildram Copycats VeriSign SiteFinder

Story Text:
A UK ISP, Nildram, have started emailing customers telling them all about a wonderful new service that's sure to have everyone singing their praises and dancing for joy. They're copying the much hated upon SiteFinder from Verisigh - where they will hijack your misspellings in a friendly fashion and whisk you away to a destination of their choosing. Oh joy, the world is just full of geniuses isn't it?
Just recieved an email from Nildram, my ISP who I've previously been very happy with:

We are pleased to announce the introduction of a new facility for our Broadband users – Nildram surfAssist.
This is a simple tool that will appear if you type an incorrect web address into your favourite web browser. surfAssist will re-direct you to either our Nildram search page, or to a site selected for direct relevance.
As a bonus, surfAssist will also work with simple keywords – simply type a subject in the web browser and surfAssist will look for suitable matches.
Additionally – we have incorporated some Nildram specific key words into surfAssist that will take you directly to relevant areas of the Nildram website.

This is disgraceful and if it is definitely happening I will cancel my account!

Erm.. I liked SiteFinder...

Erm.. I liked SiteFinder... it gave me oodles of free traffic. Am I the only one that did?

I'm with nildram as well, at

I'm with nildram as well, at home and got work set up with them as well, so got these emails. Not looked at it much, but was under the impression it was something that is off by default, and that you have to go into the control panel and turn on?

If that's the case, I don't have much of a problem with it, if it starts screwing around with things without my say so, I will :)

I have been very happy with them otherwise though. I did send a pissy email to them recently when they launched a new version of their control panel which wouldn't when Opera was identifying as Opera. Magically it worked perfectly when I identified as IE. Within about 2 days they got back to me saying it was fixed, low and behold, it was.....

Nildram has definately

Nildram has definately changed since Andrew Mardlin set the company up all those years ago and as it is now part of the Pipex clan I can see this being used as a test bed for their other brands.

Will the majority of customers mind? Probably not and I actually believe they'll thank Nildram for it
