The plot just continues to thicken with MSN's Start.com - We keep talking here at TW about how MSN need to rebrand their Search, but what about Start? Seems to me that when this is a finished project, it could well be used to catapult MSN Search to new heights no? Anyway, the point of this post was to link to mail.start.com which although i can't see anywhere where you can sign up, Start.com developer Omar Shahine says they'll be adding features frequently, and the blurb on the page sounds like someone is beta'ing it..

Since Mail Beta is being built from the ground up with new technology, we encourage you to use all the features. Tell us what you like as well as what you think is missing or needs improvement. Please don’t hold back. We need and value your input. Thank you for your participation!
I have a good vibe about start.com - not sure why but it fills me with a sense of excitement and anticipation not normally associated with MS products or properties...

Hotmail
I was able to login with my hotmail account but it just bounced me to the old ugly hotmail site for viewing my mail.
Sans-Safari
Well the mail page shows up in Safari but Start.com only shows a searchbox. So I will not assume this fancy new MS mail service will actually work with Safari when it comes out to us peons. Oh well, Passport always gave me the creeps anyway.
I can tell...
Because the start.com guys and girls get it, that's why.
Mail.start.com is probably the fully ajaxed version of HoTMaiL (pun intended), but I might be wrong.
