Pay Rates from the Blog Overlords
Pay Rates from the Blog Overlords
So we've talked about what the blogger networks pay here, but what about the true overlords of the blogosphere Jason Calacanis and Nick Denton, here's what a Wired article found out.
Calacanis employs 120 bloggers and publishes 90 blogs -- including Engadget (which covers consumer electronics) and Blog Maverick, typed by billionaire entrepreneur and Dallas Mavericks' owner Mark Cuban -- with his writers making anywhere from $200 to $3,000 a month.
and from Gawker
"The most common number quoted has indeed been $2,500 per month," Denton continues, adding that it's wrong because some writers produce more than others and get paid accordingly -- "but it's not embarrassingly wrong."
So despite all the broohaha and media hype about blogs being the salvation for any number of cosmic injustices, the blogging missionaries seem unable to find a way to be compensated more than the guy flipping burgers at the local fast food restaurant, or working at the Gap.
Here's a quote from the article that just cracked me up ...
Calacanis is perhaps the blogosphere's biggest booster. I half expect him to claim that blogs will one day provide the cure for world hunger, cancer and bad hair.
Hat tip to Aaron Wall for coining the term blogger overlord
