Nokia 770 - Meeow!

Source Title:
Nokia 770 reviewed
Story Text:
Oooooh! Remember i said i wanted one of these back in the spring? Well they're out, and they're hot! I like it, i like it, i LIKE it - and so does Howard Chui apparently, who's written a great review of the 770 for your delight and pleasure.

I'll be honest, my first impression when I saw the Nokia 770 Internet Tablet was that it looked pretty useless. It's designed by Nokia yet it isn't a phone. It looks like a PDA but lacks PIM functionality. What good is an internet tablet when you could have a PDA or a Smartphone? It turns out it's actually pretty useful for surfing the web. The display is wide and big enough to make it feel like you're browsing the web on a computer. Plus the 770 is fast enough that if you're connected via Wifi, webpages load in a snap. On top of that you can always use the 770 as a music or video player though the fact that it uses RS-MMC cards limits the amount of content you can fit.

Erm... free advertising for anyone that want's to buy me one? :)

PSP

Does the PSP not kill it stone dead?

Tough one isnt it? Thing is,

Tough one isnt it?

Thing is, that thing runs linux, and so can be modded out - there are a number of sites already devoted to it, and new hacks and programs will be made for it for sure (provided it takes off to at least some extent).

But the PSP is pretty closed - I want something that i can just have near me wherever i am in the house where i can check rss and respond to IM's etc

I'd like to play games too - but realistically, it'd be something i rarely got the chance to do...

Me too.

I want one too Nick. I've always wanted to play with Linux but I really do not need a another full desktop computer or laptop. This is small enough and cheap enough I can justify it.

I really want it to:
1. Read ebooks on, including PDF files.
2. Check up on forums and email while reading those ebooks.
3. Have something smaller than my laptop but a little more powerful than my PDA for checking email and forums at public wifi hotspots.

Price

Not sure if this is public yet, but the price on the Nokia 770 will be $350 direct from Nokia. I was at a pepcom event earlier this month and played with it at the Nokia table. It should begin shipping later this month.
