P2P Driving Broadband, Broadband Driving P2P
P2P isn't something i use particularly often. I know how to do it, i know what apps i like, and i do occasionally want to broaden my horizons with a little digital media :) Im not so typical though, and P2P is being hailed as the only killer broadband app by Om Malik, who details a conversation he had with a uk firm that monitor web traffic patterns.
Quote:
we got into a spirited discussion, and came to a not-so-pleasant conclusion: P2P is driving consumer broadband demand….. and broadband is driving P2P uptake.
It's interesting to note the figures and conclusions being drawn, but also a little on the history of P2P and how Napster taught the AOL'ers to consume digital media.
Food for thought...

Only maybe...
I'm not sure it is P2P alone that is driving it, strictly speaking. I is demand for larger _media_. Broadband makes it easier to download a song I bought through iTunes, to download podcasts and to download these honking big software and OS updates from Apple. That last bit was a prime motivator for me getting broadband.
People are getting broadband because the media files are so big but they like this stuff too.
