Suzy on Web Design and Usability
What is this blog about?
It’s about Web Page language and how design meanders into Usability, not necessarily the pretty (graphical) kind as there are enough “showcase” sites out there. Rather I hope, thanks to Nick giving a corner of TW to this topic, that it might be more about design by code for both machine and human benefit. How the logic of code and common sense of life could benefit everyone.
It will likely cross over with Usability, Accessibility, Information Architecture etc.. (and any other fancy terms it has at the minute), all of which I’ve always felt could benefit *ALL* web page readers.
While there are likely much more people than me qualified to talk on all of these subjects, I hope my naïve ramblings will help people cross the divide or if you don’t think it’s important then at least join in to point out where, why, when it matters or it doesn’t!
So who the heck is Suzy?
This one often confuses people, and to most this will be where you hear it first.
[Short story] used to have non-gender specific user name in Forums (or Fora) for harassment reasons, (yes, experienced in other forums, pre web geek life) Finally learned to trust again used my middle name = Suzy. For those that care my real name = Claire, but you will be happy to note that I answer to both, yes my head turns in a {an offline} shopping mall when someone shouts for either Suzy or Claire LOL!
I’ve got here from the design side, specifically CSS for those that don’t already know, but I’ve always felt that that the divide between page design and SEO was never narrower because of, or is that in spite of, CSS.
I’ve written some articles along the way not enough, but it's that time management thing isn't it!
I don’t generally do "blogging". You’ll see my own site has a amateur "roll your own" archaic system., though hopefully that will change too as I make the move to PHP and an easier to understand content management system for me.
I’ve had some great mentors along the way, and I still do, though either they don’t know it yet or I hit them at the time it got "competitive". Either I pissed them off because I knew too much or they stepped on my toes to get there before me. Either way I'm not bothered I already have 2 x (offline)businesses to run, and also I have a child (5yo and just started school) so my priorities remain as they were in the beginning, helping folks in return for what I can I learn along the way, you help me, I will never forget it and will return the favour maybe even tenfold some day…
My personal site will never "grow up", I know that because whatever I really do remains confidential between me and the clients ~ I don't have a portfolio site because most of the work I’ve done up to now has been one part of a bigger picture.
