Blog News : Scrapes, Fakes, And Remakes
Story Text:
My friend Graywolf, is one of very very few seo/m marketers that i really think understands blogging properly. He's fully immersed in the culture, and understands exactly how it works, from an seo's perspective. With that in mind, his reviews of various different methods of creating news blogs for integration into existing sites is well worth noting.
He covers three methods:

  • News Scraper Sites
  • News Remix Sites
  • News Remake Sites

Of the three, i can only relate to his assessment of the "news remake" - as it *roughly* fits Threadwatch and one other site i run:

Type: News Remake Sites
Keyword Focus: Excellent
Relevancy: Excellent
Traffic: Moderate to Excellent
Maintenance: Poor
Scalability: Poor
"The blogosphere is not about being politically safe or correct, it's all about having an opinion and giving it a voice."

Well said. Personally, i think taking the time to create the news remake is the winner despite poor scalability and high time consumption - with one of my sites it's providing wonderful kw pages, and timely fresh content - what more could you want?
Damn! Customers! I knew there was something! heh....

and thanks to Graywolf for the hard work, I’ve scrapped er I mean saved that idea ;)

another way

Depending on what your after: for memory I've run into a site that somewhere that allows you to recommend feeds and it packages it all up and server it back for you in a js box of some sort, but if your talking about "News Remake Sites" us evil bloggers call that meta-blogging, a bit like here at Threadwatch we mix up original content with points and comments on other content from other sites, I'm yet to find a blogger somewhere that doesn't do at least a bit of this. I'm not using the other two methods but I have played with some of the scripts: I'd note Graywolf's comments on his blog: its only stealing if you use a full feed + don't give credit. As for using and extract and providing a link to a story on a blog from a partial feed (as long as its credited) go for it! The only thing youll be accused of is ripping off Google News :-)
