Auto Gen Tecnorati & Del.icio.us Tags [updated code]

Source Title:
Auto-Generate Tags for Your Blog
Story Text:
UPDATE: Graywolf noticed the code was slightly skewey on the original example, and came up with several alternatives that work much better - Thanks GW!
Tired of hand coding the html needed to put your blog posts into Technorati and Del.icio.us tags? Steve points out this handy bookmarklet that will auto generate the code for you.
If you're wondering why the fuck you'd want to do this, then it's simple: People subscribe to the tag feeds, and they link to interesting posts they find there - worth a line of html IMO

needs work

I prefixes all of the tags with [http://del.icio.us/tedernst/], which may make tedernst list pretty nice but I don't know what it does for everyone else. Should be [http://del.icio.us/tag/]. I'll whip something up in a little while.

Updated version

Ok I tried to post the update here but the javascript threw an a security error. Here's the updated Technorati & Del.icio.us bookmarklet. I have a couple versions with different delimeters and optional parenthisis around the tags. If you can think of any improbvements to it let me know and I'll try to accomodate.

Thanks GW, i didn't notice

Thanks GW, i didn't notice that - i updated the original post to point to your page!

What's with the seperation stuff? I thought spaces where the way forward with delicios? - And what does con.cept do?

seperators

I like pipes over commas myself but that's a personal preference. The space thing is wierd for example if you're tagging something with [search engine optimization] it works, but IMHO isn't elegant. People also mash stuff together like [searchengineoptimization] which I think works less well. It bothered me for a while, and then I saw someone else doing [search.engine.optimization] I liked it. I got that while it was three different words it was one concept really quickly.

Added BTW I like the thing you do with the [replies] tag.

Oh, im a bit off form it

Oh, im a bit off form it seems (or maybe just thick as usual heh) I got confused with the way you actually enter multiple tags in delicious, and the html markup - see what i mean?

I've been mashing tags together - and doing things like 'googlebiz' and 'googleui' but i like the dots also, i think i'll be doing that from now on, cheers GW!

replies

yeah, neat way of keeping track of conversations outside of TW :)
