Mobile-friendly signals will be amped up by Google this May. This according to a story today in SEL. The update is supposed to begin sometime in May and roll out gradually, kind of like how Panda 4.2 operated.
"The mobile-friendly algorithm is a page-by-page signal, so it can take time for Google to assess each page, and that may be why it will be a gradual rollout," writes Barry Schwartz.
Another story from The SEM Post says that there won't be any new changes..."it was only the strength of the signal that was increasing." Still, "that didn't stop some from speculating that Google is including something to target websites that are gaming the app interstitial rule."
Gary Illyes has confirmed that the gaming of app interstitials will not be a part of this May update. But Google is still looking into it, according to John Mueller, and may use manual actions to target offenders in the future.
