Dynamic Web Pages Patented?

Source Title:
Dynamic Webpages? Patented!
Story Text:
It really doesn't get much sillier. Some idiots called Epicrealm have patented dynamic web pages (or that's at least what it looks like), and are already suing companies based on that patent
From the abstract:

The present invention teaches a method and apparatus for creating and managing custom Web sites. Specifically, one embodiment of the present invention claims a computer-implemented method for managing a dynamic Web page generation request to a Web server, the computer-implemented method comprising the steps of routing the request from the Web server to a page server, the page server receiving the request and releasing the Web server to process other requests, processing the request, the processing being performed by the page server concurrently with the Web server, as the Web server processes the other requests, and dynamically generating a Web page in response to the request, the Web page including data dynamically retrieved from one or more data sources.

Patent Hell

This is why I have such a hard time seeing the value of patents.

Interesting

This scam is quite interesting, because it overlaps patents on application servers and alike. Oracle, IBM, Progress and others could step in. Could become even funnier than the Acacia scam on streaming.

Anybody going to patent POP (puking on patents)?

That's really funny. I

That's really funny. I reckon the USPTO just drink themselves into a stupor and then go round approving patents randomly without reading the contents. It's the only possible explanation for this idiocy.

Thank God that the EU spanked the Software Patents thing into oblivion for everyone on this side of the pond!
