Mobile search and search engine marketing
Story Text:

Kevin Ryan takes a look at the state of Mobile Search Marketing, walking us through the the more interesting points from a Mobile Search White Paper from oneupweb (reg req'd)

Why bother with trying to understand what's happening in the space? Because 12 percent of users accessed news and information with their browsers, and that number is steadily increasing. Also noteworthy is that approximately 130 million phones are retired each year -- an indication that users will arbitrarily adopt new technologies that arrive with new phones.

Not my wife!

users will arbitrarily adopt new technologies that arrive with new phones

There will always be people who use phones for phoning and nothing else...

That said, I know that I do find it frustrating to browse the web with my BlackBerry -- it's slow and I have to wade through a lot of crap to get the info I want. People I know at Google tell me they're working hard in this space and expanding their wireless team to deal with these problems.

Ryan's a bit confused about some of the technology, though, apparently not realizing that HTTP is also used to fetch WML pages from a web server.
