My how some are very brazen
Story Text:
The Internet has always been a bit like the wild west with sites doing whatever they can get away with. I just came across what I thought was a particularly brazen site. While checking the backlinks of a top ranking poker site I noticed it seemed to target blacklist instruction pages. It looks like it was a good idea since the spam stuck and the site is ranking. Feel free to add any other examples of brazen sites.

Victoria's Secret has an online strip poker game where you can play strip poker with a Victoria's Secret model. Their only marketing is viral, and it went wild on the blogs, hence the ranking for poker.
Yes, we talked about it
Yes, we talked about it here: strip poker viral marketing
Victoria's Secret has an
Ya, its just too bad that google did not list the "Poker" site at the number one spot for "poker", too bad only the T & A site is listed without even a link to the poker site.
Victoria's Secret's "viral marketing" may have worked well, but their search engine marketing sucks.
What a waste...
I wonder how Victoria's
I wonder how Victoria's Secret's management would react if they knew how much money they are loseing by not using a little search engine marketing knowledge...
I got an enquirey about
I got an enquirey about advertising from partygaming the other day (the big one that just ipo'd) - they wanted to know who to talk to, i said they could talk to me, they never replied...
It's not Victoria's Secret,
It's not Victoria's Secret, I was referring to a real poker site that is a hard core spammer.
OK, let's avoid outing
OK, let's avoid outing anyone though please :)
It's not Victoria's Secret,
Yup, I know.
But to be honest, I find the VS site much more interesting.
One for the textbook
1) Word isn't on the page
2) No page with content relevant to the word is even a link off the page
3) Vast majority of links to the page are off-topic and don't have keyword in them at all
4) Even new links with keyword in them are diluted by the extra "pink panty" words being in link text to
5) LSI of link text is nonexistent in the Google algorithm
6) High pagerank obviously matters
7) New links are virtually all low quality, from pages with no topical relevance, so 7.5) Hilltop is nonexistent in the google algorithm
8) The patent clearly stated this phenomenon should devalue the page, not increase its rank
9) This isn't a term like miserable failure where no one was competing for it, meaning the amount of links this page got shouldn't have gotten it into the top fifty, let alone #11
victoria's
