Quiet out there isn't it?
Story Text:
Well, the weather is poo in Denmark today, and i've been messing around with all kinds of stuff - anything but actuall work - rather than the sitting out in the sun i've become acustom to the last week but hey, it IS the weekend...
Robyn has learnt to crawl over the last few days, which has been keeping us on our toes. She's also well into the "solids" phase of eating as you can see
from the pic. The chickens are getting bigger, George is aswell, and he's busy tearing about the house like his tails on fire 90% of the time (and he's great friends with my smaller dog, sam) so all is well, but uninteresting here...
Someone must have done/will do something cool this weekend, tell us about it!

Before you know it...
...she'll be sinking her teeth into your chickens :-]
I built a sunshade for my "porch" today (but that's about it, apart from watching grass grow). Boy is it quiet out here today.
PS: Is Copenhagen 2006 for real? I can do Copenhagen on my motorcycle... Some even say that Copenhagen is the captital of Holland, but I won't go into that.
Yeah i think so, we've
Yeah i think so, we've talked about it a few times (here and there..) and i know Rumbas has been petitioning for a big meet over here for some time now, i reckon it's for real...
Robyn
She's just getting cuter and cuter, Nick! Enjoy every minute of it! I know it's cliche, but when you blink your eyes she will be going off to college like my oldest is doing next month! (She was just as cute at that age too, and is now at 18 is unbelievably gorgeous! I would post her pic here but some of the no good spammers that post here may drool on it and ruin it ;)...hehehe)
oh i dont think so jill,
oh i dont think so jill, come on, let's admire the daughter of our favorite white hat :)
Dilemma
...should I buy a boat?
I almost did yesterday as an impulse purchase. I mean, it was right there in front of me and looked like it was made for me (and 5-6 friends or perhaps more). I'm not going into details but it certainly isn't your average boat - some people wouldn't even call it a boat I think *lol* It also had a bargain price tag, although it was still a lot of money.
So much in fact, that I would have only 500 Euros left for the forseeable future if I had bought it. I'm not going to ask my bank for a loan - I just hate the thought of debt. Then again, I do have a "piggy bank" as well so that I´ll always be able to make it for a few months with no income - and I'll invoice again in a month or two. And... there might be some possibilities for monetizing it and hence making it an investment (needs some investigation though). So, I guess I could still do it.
Although... I'm also in the process of renovating a few critical rooms in my apartment. Bathroom's almost done, kitchen is under way (as in "everything teared down - no going back"). Those are rather expensive rooms to renovate. On top of that there's the usual stuff: All kinds of other nice things that one would like to spend money on, like, say holiday, travel (eg. Edinburgh) just to mention one example.
And, what do you do with a boat (like that) when you're not sailing in it? I haven't got a car and don't want one, so what about transport? And how about insurance and all that stuff? You also need a license to sail it, but I can get that.
So... You see my dilemma? Damn... What would you do? Anyone got a tip to make the decision easier?
yeah buy it
you only live once, it's summer, what's the worst that could happen?
A whole in the water...
...into which you pour money, is how some folks describe a boat.
Hmmm...
The Edinburgh and boat problem can solve one another methinks. It's not THAT far.
And if you're re-doing your house, where are you going to live in the mean time??? In your boat, that's right.
About the license to sail and all. That's for later. Park (?) it somewhere first and have some parties in/on it. Think of your boat as a website: monetise it - LOL.
>>a hole in the water into
>a hole in the water into which you poor money
Sounds about right, especially if you live in a temperate clime. Seems like when I owned one, every other weekend it was raining. Mooring fees all year, got to use it about 3 times during the summer, taxes, registration, etc. For those three weekends, it was a good escape though.
Too damn hot and humid to do much of anything here. By the time I'm done feeding the chickens I'm pretty much done with being outside. Glad to hear your chickens are thriving Nick. Mark my words, you'll start acquiring more of them. First you'll want a few different breeds, then a few more, fancy and exotic. Feather-footed ones, naked-necks, crested, bantams, etc. You'll want more roosters because they're the ones that are the most fun to watch. Then you'll be giving eggs away to friends and family. ;)
I was out at midnight last night buying the new Harry Potter book, stayed up late to finish it. It's darker than book 5, I iamgine some kids will be upset about the ending to this one. Also read The Rule of Four, excellent pageturner. Plan to review it in a few.
Other than that, been a slow summer for the most part. I still have one donkey that is due to give birth and she looks miserable in this heat. Might set up a sprinkler out in the pasture. ;)
Was it the "Millionaire Next Door"
who said "NEVER buy a boat."
Here's a thread about it here:
Never buy a boat.
*lol* thanks
- it's not exactly a boat you could live in, throw parties in, or sail to Scotland. Okay, I bet some could, but, well, it's not exactly comfortable. In car terms, think "sand blaster" in stead of "mobile home". Or, in MC terms, think "dirt bike" in stead of "gold wing" :-)
It's a RIB. So, someone in the market for "a boat" would not likely consider this baby. Anyway, I'll call someone tomorrow and ask for advice I think.

Thanks for that link grnidone, I found this wise quote in that weird forum you linked to:
Makes sense to me. Perhaps that was even the end of the story :-)

Btw. I don't get the millionaire thing. I'm certainly not rich, I bet most readers here make more than me. I just don't like to have debt. Can't really say I like money either - often it just equals worries.
Good times
Nick, keep the reports coming, it's nice to see :O) I am a sucker for baby and kitten pics :OD
Claus, thinking of buying a boat but not rich. Certainly beats my version of not rich ;OP I wouldn't buy it if I was you Claus, if you have to think about it that much you don't really want it that badly :O)
My copy of harry potter arrived this morning. Didn't really want to see any spoilers as it is going to be my holiday reading :O/
I spent today helping my friend move house and playing with my new canon 350d and Flickr. Also been playing with software in order to take them apart and put a better version together. Full but dull news day.
>>boat Knowing you live in
>boat
Knowing you live in copenhagen, and knowing the weather, i'd leave it claus, sounds like something you'll get out of your system soon enough to me :) though i certainly understand the impule buy, almost all of my purchases are 'off the cuff' heh..
chickens
Ivana keeps a reign on me, but yeah i do want more, i also want to properly tame the ones i have, they're still a bastard to catch when needed. Yesterday there was a spectacular summer thunderstorm, and just as it was breaking i decided they just coul'dnt be out in it (they've been in their inside bit, but prefer to roost outside in the rose bushes) and i ended up chasin chickens in torrential rain, and i feel so sorry for them when they're obviously scared of being caught...
Still, it was a great thunderstorm, i stayed out in it and drank beer soaked to the skin, lovely..!
DG, i sent you an email to whatever address i have for you, you left a horribly teasing IM for me the other day and have not logged in since you MF! :)
The Two Happiest Days in Your Life
1) The day you buy your boat
2) The day you sell your boat
;-)
Run don't walk away from it Claus
Having spent a far amount of time on a sailboat in the Caribbean I think i can say it is a huge money pit. Think about it this way. You have all the problems of a car if the boat is motorized coupled with all the problems that come with a house. On top of that you are placing it in a very hostile environment. Salt water eats everything. The other problem is getting parts is very expensive if you can even find them.
But with that said wow what a beautiful thing blue water sailing is.
Fire
Spent the afternoon breaking up pallets and burning them. Our previous owners seem to have treated the back of the garden as a rubbish tip, and we want to have a BIG veggie patch there next year so it's all go to go..
I found an old steel drum, with the bottom and top knocked out so it was kind of cool to do "mans gardening" and play with petrol! Only thing is, i managed to misjudge the wind and lost almost all my eye lashes on the right hehe!
boats and daughters
Well since Nick wanted a photo and we are talking about boats, I just happened to stumble upon a pic of Corie and a boat!

Lovely!
Superb!
You must be dead proud jill :)
Just have to...
...post a pic of the kind of boat I could afford to buy with my web-made money:
Actually that is not entirely true. I hope to be able to afford that in a couple of weeks or so from now ;-] Fingers crossed.
Nice Wit :) Still waiting
Nice Wit :)
Still waiting for ivana to get her license, then we're beach bound for the rest of the summer! It's only 4km away, but that's not too near when you have a little one to think of..
Been hanging out with the fam
and trying to get our 10 month old daughter to learn the trick behind crawling. Ack, no luck so far. Also been trying to teach her to sleep at night, which she somehow forgot how to over the last few months. Eg. mom and dad needs sleep! Can I come down to your place for a few days and get some peace and quite Nick? :)
Copenhagen
Oh boy, stuff going on behind the scenes. So far it looks promising, so start preparing :) Just need to make sure the bribes are reaching the right people. The messenger was sent out quite some time ago, but we haven't heard anything from the capo di tutti capo yet ;)
Stay tuned.
Crawling
Rumbas, she may never learn to crawl, don't worry about it. Some kids just don't. My oldest (the one in the boat pic) never crawled, she just decided it would be easier to walk, so at 11 months that's what she did.
Of course, she had everything she needed cuz she would point to what she wanted and we would get it for her, so there was no real incentive to crawl. It hasn't seemed to have effected her in any negative ways, however. She's never been a great climber which may have something to do with never crawling, but that's about it!
My second one crawled like crazy!
okay, I'll keep my BMS
- big mouth shut next time I get one of those ideas. Just remembered that one of the next months the taxman will demand an amount that could buy me four of those boats. Don't even know where I'll get that kind of money, but it does mean no boat for me. Possibly no food either, but I prefer to think I'll solve that problem somehow :-)
And, by the way, that boat definitely doesn't cost a fortune - it's around as much as a used (small) motorcycle (which is another thing I just don't own). I'm self employed and usually happy, but rich I'm not. I just, like, really really wanted that boat.
Buy the damn boat claus! If
Buy the damn boat claus!
If it don't cost much, you can alwalys sell it if it doesn't work out....
