Have You "Zabasearched" Yourself Yet?
NPR
NPR reports about a new Web search engine that makes it easy -- some say too easy -- to find personal information about virtually anyone.
The new search engine founders Nick Matzorkis and Robert Zakari claim that this is a step toward data democratization.
If your information is already out there, the logic goes, at least now you'll know about it.
I ran a quick search for myself and some friends, and found several records that contain the correct information inluding address and phone number.
It also contains some self promotion for their paid service that alegedly contains even more information and backgound check.
Some wonder how "Can We Stop Zabasearch -- and Similar Personal Information Search Engines?" as it might be a case of privacy invasion, but since the first amendment allows such publication and even publication of more sensetive information,
it's extremely likely that any law that simply tried to ban sites like Zabasearch, or "digital dossiers" more generally, would be struck down as contrary to the First Amendment.
Now, all you have to do is run a search for yourself and hope they don't "know" you...

USA only
So at least most of the worlds information is safe :O)
didn't work with
latest firefox for me on windows...
trying it on IE, there's a lot of old, bad data amongst the recent data...
USA v the World
just goes to show once again that the rest of the world is in the right when it comes to privacy laws and the US isn't. Australia has similar laws to Europe so it won't happen here.
Not Bad, It knows my age
Not Bad, It knows my age and all the places I have lived in the past 5-10 years, and some of my old phone numbers.
Old Addresses
Wow, it found old addresses I used to live that I barely even remember!
Well it found my Dad...
and he's not been in the USA for long - I wish I had know of this service when i went to visit him and forgot the address - US Customs are not known for their understanding :)
