I think it would be useful to the internet marketing community as a whole to have an agreed upon system for measuring value of text links. PR somhow turned into the default and spawned a micro-economy based upon it.
Ranking criteria would include:
- ONE OVERALL METRIC - perhaps one to a hundred scale
- total # of backlinks
- # unique linking domains
- relevancy of backlinks
- theme of site
- number of outbound links on the page
- surrounding text – length and type of link
- theme of the specific web page.
- age of site - wayback machine information
It'd certaintly be a fun app to work with, i hope someone takes him up on his call for an open sourced replacement for PageRank....
- Y! MyWeb

Would be great....
Collecting that sort of data would be a tough one though especially when it comes to backlinks.
Reminds me a little of the link analysis tool that got scuppered:

Bring it on though.
Tricky
Would be nice. Big challenge
Watch this space, but it will be months not weeks !
In a perfect world... How would you value a website or just one page of a website?
What metrics would you use? And how would you weigh them?
I think google almost had it, but they blew it, at least so far.
