fixed.
I have heard a couple people say that they tended to get indexed quicker and the like w MSN if they had an IIS server
Stop Press
News just in: Google favours sites hosted on Apache & Linux
What better argument for a little IP delivery eh?
good point Foo
Does anyone know % of public websites are actually hosted on linux and what on MS?
I imagine that while a large % are hosted on Linux boxes probably lot of those are blogs, cheaply hosted sites and vanity sites - which are those less likely to be SEO'd and therefore shouldn't perform so well. Then given G's predisposition to bias towards high numbers of links and given that many blogs receive a lot of inbound links would that skew the results, especially for non-competitive words?
So perhaps MSN is proportional and Google is biased? (and Yahoo isn't included so who knows?)
web server survey
netcraft has some stats...
Apache - 18886494 - 69.86%
Microsoft - 6132710 - 22.68%
Sun - 199557 0.74%
Was there any question this would happen?
I'm surprised they crawl anything other than MS srevers at all. Microsoft has been proven to have a monopoly and they'll do anything to keep or make it bigger.
But yes, this certainly does make a good arguement for cloak.. er IP delivery.
Not going to happen
OK, that lets out any plans I had of ranking well on MS :)
No way I will be hosting on IIS!
Hmmm...
For now, filed in "tinfoil hat" folder until further notice ;O)
