Possibly the Search industries most useless metric is in the progress of updating - thousands of teeny-bopping newbie search marketers the world over are wetting their pants with excitement as the Google Toolbar updates it's PageRank display. Despite Google themselves reportedly saying that it's for "entertainment purposes only", check out the excitement...

excitement = entertainment
G appears to be right. Too bad the excitement will be compensated by disappointment soon.
I think the entertainment is for Google's engineers who read WMW

Unfortunately good for link trades though so I would say more than entertainment. No good recip campaign is good without it.
The funniest ones are the poor sods who think that now they have pr3 from one crappy pr4 or something who now deserve to be on page1 and blame the sandbox. Bless their poor newbie souls!

I have checked several sites. and the PR has in fact partially reverted. the toolbarqueries.google.com datacenter is showing these changes, as are the datacenters at 216.239.53.104, 216.239.57.105 and 216.239.53.99.
The question is, is this just an adjustment, is it a temporary thing while Google adjusts something, or is Google reverting for some other reason?

People were already making fun of the current/temporary(?)* PR blackout on the G toolbar, suggesting they have high PR pages and were looking for a link exchange or sale.
But apparently there's a reversal already. {irony} Why didn't I see that coming {/irony} ?
Sorry, but I don't expect any Google special indicator or tool to be accurate or dependable anymore. Hence I won't bother using them, except for fun :-]
* I don't really know - I don't feel the need to (re-)enable the G toolbar's PR indicator (yet).
I know of a friend who started some site two months ago which is now a PR6 in the toolbar
