Story Text:

I'm busy. I'm always busy, busy is what we do right? So why is it that people still insist in titling their blog and forum posts in most absurd, unappealing and utterly moronic manner? Maybe i need a break heh...

Help Me!!!
Firstly, you should be shot for the multiple exclamation marks, you're clearly a headcase to begin with. Secondly, why the fuck would i want to help you? I told you, im busy...

Funny...
What is? What's so fucking funny? I wouldn't know, there's no way in hell im clicking on your damn link - sell it to me...

You heard it here first!
Actually, no, i didn't. Heard what? I just can't be arsed to click something unless i have a reasonable idea of what i'll find when i get there ok?

WTF?
Precisely.

How hard can it be to write a good title? Im sure i don't get it even half close to perfect but i do try, which is more than can be said for the 10 or so blogs i just nuked from my RSS on the basis that consistently shit title's is a waste of my time.

Im sure i've missed some classics, feel free to add...

Some titles just suck

Yep, some fucking dickhead posted that one and all I got was a damned list of links!

hehe, i considered that one fair warning...

hmmm...

Ya know, it didn't even occur to me that'd i'd be setting myself up for a fall :)

I expect i can live with it though, there are actually quite a few far worse ones in the archives heh...

while we're slagging nick w...

I wish you'd stop using apostrophe S ('s) as if indicated plural - it doesn't - it is used for possessive, or a contraction

  • This Title's Creator is stupid
  • This Title's Stupid (okay for informal speech)
  • These Titles are Stupid

thank you. :)

My 2 drachmas

I hate it when old school journalists don't put the relevant keyword's in the article title.

I Haven't Written in Awhile...

I agree, most titles you mention are pretty pathetic.

To come up with a good title is not that hard. The easiest way for me (and the way I think it should be done) is that you write first and come up with a title later based on what you wrote about. Isn’t this what you do when you design a new product or start a company? You come up with an idea, a device, etc., and then you come up with a name, brand, or title.

I’ve noticed when adding a comment to a blog or adding a new blog post is that the Title field is always displayed first. Why is that? Why not have the Title box below the Comments or posting area, so your story/post is written first and then you come up with a title? Maybe this would help.

That's what I get for laughin at the apostrophe - just noticed a nice new word in one of my blog titles:

Backwords

???

Nasty.

Hmmm - personally its one of the things I love

If they aren't using decent titles then they are unlikely to be thinking about SEO, which means they are unlikely to be a competitor - the less competitors I have the more I like it :)

Maybe the apostrophe helps rank a page for the singular keyword??? Got a feeling it does.

Hope I'm not disclosing any secret SEO tricks here  AFAIK most IT and tech people don't really care about all that language stuff, but some might do it on purpose :-)

P.S. Kali you're right.

Drop the apostrophes...

I typically refrain from using any sort of punctuation in title elements. The results are different. Most searchers are not going to use the apostrophe when entering their query.

I've seen some very creative title elements during my tenure. Nick, I feel your pain! ;)

I have totally given up on reading postings that have clueless titles:
I Boycott Cryptic Links

Of course, none of my postings have clueless titles...

Backwords: (n) The individual words used in the anchor text for backlinks to a site and/or page.
