This is a few days old but I just got round to reading all my newsletters. Sorry.

Forrester Research, Inc. estimates that search engine marketing — commercial search that includes paid listings, contextual search, site optimization, and paid inclusions — will generate €1.4 billion of spending in Europe in 2005, a 65% increase compared with 2004. By 2010, European marketers will spend almost €3 billion — up from €856 million in 2004 — on search marketing.

Seems like nice money going to be on the table.

Interesting to see how low that estimate is. Either I am just doing much better than average or those numbers are very concervative. I have, off course, no way of knowing what the right answer is ...

Are you speaking about the overall numbers or just the Danish numbers.

I am seeing that SME's in the US are beginning to look at what they call 'alternative' advertising which means doing some tests out of the directory/YP/Print Magazine type advertising which was traditional to them. They are by no means at present giving up their traditional advertising programmes but maybe taking some of that money and trying PPC type models. (My experience is more B2B)

In the UK, I see the Governments beginning to look at using PPC type models to cut their TV advertising budget down. This is both for the UK Government and also the Scottish Government but I am not sure whether they will use a lot of search. My experience is that they will select sites for their advertising rather than search.

I am not really up on what SMEs are doing in the UK - In my personal dealings with SMEs in the UK as a consumer of their services, I feel that most of them have a website that was done 2-4 years ago and that is their website. They don't seem to be using it for anything other than saying that they have a website (which in 90% of the cases is totally useless for their consumers).

I thought the figures and projections for UK, Germany, Netherlands were actually quite good.

I am just talking about the growth rates I experience in my businesses in general that are partly Danish, and partly global. I have seen, and still see, growth rates that are far better than what Forrester repport. So my question was: Is it just me being lucky or are the numbers too low?
