A few days early but here are the February Patents from the search engines as well as other search related patents I could find.

It's a few days early but if any more come in I'll edit this post to include them.

LISTINGS OPTIMIZATION USING A PLURALITY OF DATA SOURCES

Abstract of WO2005013148

A system is provided for allocating combinations of search results, types of space, and/or other information from different sources (e.g., search engines) in which a type of space, search results, and/or other information from at least one source or type or from each source or type, for example, are optimized to obtain an optimum commercial value. Using the example of a search, a commercial metric and a user satisfaction metric are established for search terms and used in the optimization process. In calculating the commercial value and the user satisfaction value for a set of search results, the weight given to the commercial value and the user satisfaction value of a search result is different depending on its source

SELF-SERVICE PLATFORM FOR SELLING ADVERTISING

Abstract of WO2005013080

Computer systems, computer program products and methods for self-service advertising. A request is received, over the Internet, to initiate an advertisement campaign. The request comprises a maximum amount to spend on the advertisement campaign, a designation of an advertisement to be used in the advertisement campaign, and a time period in which the advertisement is to be run. The advertisement is reviewed. When the advertisement is deemed not approved, the advertisement campaign is rejected. When the advertisement is deemed approved, the advertisement campaign is accepted. The advertisement is displayed, during the time period specified by the request, when the advertisement campaign is accepted.

A METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR ASSESSMENT OF EFFECTIVENESS OF ADVERTISEMENTS ON AN INTERNET HUB NETWORK

Abstract of WO2005013097

A method and computer application for assessing the performance of advertisements and in particular internet advertisements. The method includes collecting objective data points, subjective data points and user experience data points. Additionally, the method includes collecting advertisement description data points, creative description data points and user description data points. With these data points performance scores are calculated for assessing the effectiveness of an advertisement

IMPROVING CONTENT-TARGETED ADVERTISING USING COLLECTED USER BEHAVIOR DATA

Abstract of WO2005010702

A content-targeting ad system is provided with a user behavior (e.g., selection (e.g., click), conversion, etc.) feedback mechanism. The performance of individual ads, or groups of ads, may be tracked on a per document (e.g. per URL) and/or on a per host (e.g. per Website) basis. The performance of ad targeting functions may also be tracked on a per document, and/or per host basis. Such user behavior feedback data may be processed (e.g., aggregated) into useful data structures. Such user behavior feedback data (raw or processed) may then be used in a content-targeting ad system to improve ad quality, improve user experience, and/or maximize revenue.

METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR UNDERSTANDING A MEANING OF A KNOWLEDGE ITEM USING INFORMATION ASSOCIATED WITH THE KNOWLEDGE ITEM

Abstract of WO2005013149

Systems and methods that determine a meaning of a knowledge item using related information are described. In one aspect, a knowledge item is received, related information associated with the knowledge item is received, at least one related meaning based on the related information is determined, and a knowledge item meaning for the knowledge item based at least in part on the related meaning is determined. Several algorithms and types of related information useful in carrying out such systems and methods are described.

METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR DETERMINING A MEANING OF A DOCUMENT TO MATCH THE DOCUMENT TO CONTENT

Abstract of WO2005013150

Systems and methods for determining a meaning of a document to match the document to content are described. In one aspect, a source article is accessed, a plurality of regions in the source article are identified, at least one local concept associated with each region is determined, the local concepts of each region are analyzed to identify any unrelated regions, the local concepts associated with any unrelated regions are eliminated to determine relevant concepts, the relevant concepts are analyzed to determine a source meaning for the source article, and the source meaning is matched with an item meaning associated with an item from a set of items.

METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR EDITING A NETWORK OF INTERCONNECTED CONCEPTS

Abstract of WO2005013151

Systems and methods that create and edit a network of interconnected concepts are disclosed. In one embodiment, a semantic engine implements a method comprising receiving a primary term representing a first concept to be added to a network of interrelated concepts, receiving at least one related term related to the primary term, receiving at least one relationship between the first concept and a second concept, receiving a strength value associated with the relationship, and adding the first concept to the network.

PROVIDING A USER INTERFACE WITH SEARCH QUERY BROADENING

Abstract of WO2005013153

A system (10) and method (60) for providing a user interface (37) with search query broadening is presented. A query (40) defining a search executable on potentially retrievable information (22) is accepted. The query (40) is parsed. A broadened query (40) is provided. At least one of the broadened query (40) and results of a search (52) executed on the broadened query (40) is presented.

RANKING SEARCH RESULTS USING CONVERSION DATA

Abstract of WO2005013046

Ranking search results using conversion data is described. According to one embodiment, conversion data is provided to a document; the document being one of a plurality of documents to be searched on a network. The documents are ordered in a search result based on the conversion data.

Apparatus and method for searching data of structured document

Abstract of EP1508864

Tag registration information (104 and 222), keyword registration information (105 and 224), and state management information (106 and 223) are generated based on a search condition, and a tag search of detecting a tag registered in the tag registration information from document data of a structured document is switched to and from a keyword search of detecting a keyword registered in the keyword registration information according to the state management information

METHOD FOR SYNTHESISING A SELF-LEARNING SYSTEM FOR KNOWLEDGE ACQUISITION FOR TEXT-RETRIEVAL SYSTEMS

Abstract of EP1508861

The invention relates to computer science, information-search and intelligent systems, and can be used in developing information-search and other information and intelligent systems that operate on the basis of Internet. The invention provides the possibility of automatic creation of knowledge by extraction of knowledge from textual documents in electronic form in different languages; intelligent processing of textual information and users' requests to extract knowledge in any foreign language. The claimed method provides a mechanism of self-learning in the form of a stochastically indexed system of artifical intelligence, providing automatic instruction of the system in rules of grammatical and semantic analysis. The method includes creating databases of stochastically indexed dictionaries, tables of indices of linguistic texts and knowledge bases of morphological analysis; performing morphological and syntactical analysis, and also stochastic indexing of textual documents in respect to a given theme from the search system in a given language, and creating knowledge base of syntactical analysis. Stochastically indexed textual documents pertaining to the given theme are subjected to semantic analysis, and knowledge bases of semantic analysis. A user's request is compiled and transformed, in the stochastically indexed form, into a plurality of new requests that are equivalent to the original request; and stochastically indexed fragments of textual documents that comprise all word combinations of the transformed request are selected. A stochastically indexed structure is generated from the selected documents and basing on said structure by means of logical conclusion a brief reply of the system is generated. Relevancy of the obtained brief reply is checked by generating an interrogative sentence based on said reply, and by comparing said sentence with the request. When the user's request is identical to the obtained interrogative sentence, the decision is made that the brief reply of the system is identical to the request, and the reply is submitted to the user.
