Thread Description:
Judging by the fact that Yahoo! are to host a "web spam summit" organized by Technorati, i assume that Search Engines and Blog Vendors have finally admitted that the NoFollow debacle will not solve blog spam...

Technorati is organizing the event (thanks guys!) and we're hosting it on-site at Yahoo in Sunnyvale. The main goal to get the tool makers in a room together to talk about web spam, share info, and brainstorm.

SES NYC would have made much more sense as some blog spammers might be there.... ;)

I can explain how much will power it is taking me not to blog spam that link. I'm laughing out loud just thinking of it
Links
If MovableType is already redirecting comment links, then why would SixApart see a need to use "nofollow" on redirected URLs??
typepad and livejournal, maybe?

Nofollow and web spam squashing summit
Hi Nick, I am organizing the summit. The nofollow initiative was conducted over e-mail and a few phone calls in a short amount of time. Think about what we could do if we got all the major players in the same room and create open channels of communication?
Niall
Im with you on that, my only gripe is that the solutions are really not that tough, i've been calling for blog vendors to speak to spammers for months and as usual, they do not listen.
If you do a search for "comment spam" here or "blog spam" you'll actually find some great discussions involving spammers that discuss ways of thwarting the tide...
Seriously, it's amazing that no one has attempted to actually establish dialogue with those that know most about this stuff, the spammers themselves.
Im looking forward to hearing what comes of this...
you have to invite a few blog
you have to invite a few blog spammers or at least let them conference in.
I'm sure you'll fine a few who only do it becuase ultimatly you can't rank in Yahoo unless you do.
Hi Niall
Hi Niall,
and well done on organising the summit and also for popping in here.
I've sent an email to the invite address and would like to attend to help find a workable solution.
Yup, I'm a spammer and definately not neccesarily the 1st choice of participants but I promise you one thing. I have answers and those answers work!
I look forward to hearing from you :)
