Google listed as Possible Suitor for NBC
According to John Battelle Google is one of the people being mentioned as candidate interested in buying NBC John Battelle's Searchblog: Google - NBC: Very Dumb Idea
But what is new is the suggestion that the best buyer might be Google.
Such a move would be a monumental error. Google is not a company that wants to or probably even knows how to own a major media company. Also, it has outlined a strategy that positions the company as a Switzerland of sorts with regard to major media companies. Buying one of them would kill that strategy.

John Battelle is wrong
Look at it this way.. we are in a Web 2.0 bubble... the bubble will pop... NBC will stablize that bubble for Google.
I think John saw only as far as year ahead... he totally missed the real reason for the concept of the purchase..
Funny thing also.. he noted that Google doesn't know how to run a Media company... comical.. Google is the largest media company on earth.
Yes, look at AOL Time
Yes, look at AOL Time Warner. Brilliant move on AOL's part.
That's the best way Larry and Sergey can stay so rich without selling their shares (which would cause panic)
exactly!!
It was genius on AOL's part.. a disaster on Time Warner's part... I don't understand John Battelle's opinion on this.
If AOL didn't merge with Time Warner, what do you think would of happened to AOL when that bubble pop... they would of looked like Pets.Com by now.
> I don't understand John
> I don't understand John Battelle's opinion on this.
What is good for Google organically is not the same as pulling the wool over the stock market's eyes. These are the 2 sides of the coin in such a takeover.
Somehow I doubt that Google's tech heavy Borg-like culture will work well with NBC's arrogant individual-centric approach.
The AOL parallels are
The AOL parallels are interesting w/r Google's feel for the short term future. It takes a lot of energy and commitment to go forth which such a merger deal. Too bad we don't know how Google really feels.
Let's not ignore how MS and NBC "hooked up" years ago, and now we have MSNBC. Was that a big disaster, or synergy? There's more to big business than integration.
