Google are working with UCSD to develop the next generation image search, which involves actual image analysis on a keyword basis.
The article helpfully shows a big pussy and points out the keywords associated with it.

Couldn't of put it better myself. Anyway, I thought MSN was working towards something like this? seems like Google could beat them to the punch again :(

I think we can all agree that a DCT-based approach is going to be limited if the individual texels are on a larger than 8x8 scale, yes?
Sometimes I miss image processing and computer vision. I can't believe I haven't done some 20% projects given the amount of cool data that I could experiment on. Brian, see what you've done? I'm getting nostalgic for grad school days. :) Maybe I'll compute wavelet-based similarity on impressum image blocks. That would be fun *and* relevant to work.

And I get called a geek!
Why not say, look at how colours interact with either to make a picture and analyse future (non known) images based on previous experience by building Markov chains (You see, Markov chains are something most people here will immediately get turned on by) or am I way off base here Matt ? :)
