MSN's Ad Campaign to Hit 90% of US Households 40x in 8wks
MSN Takes On Google With New Ad Campaign
MediaPost runs all the gory details of M$' media blitz on Google for a slice of the Search pie:
The ad campaign aims to reach 90 percent of U.S. households 40 times in the next eight weeks, said Chris Cocks, MSN's director of global campaigns. "This will be our biggest campaign since the introduction of the MSN Butterfly in 2000," Cocks said. The initiative will hit 25 markets in 10 languages concurrently.
In the United States, the campaign, coordinated by McCann Erickson, San Francisco, will include TV, viral, and out-of-home advertising, in addition to heavy online media. Online advertising will appear on MSN's home page and other MSN properties targeting the company's 360 million users. Apart from the MSN network, online ads will appear on sites including CNet, USAToday.com, and CBS Sportsline.
MSN will primarily buy ads on cable TV, but also plans to purchase air time in the top 12 metro markets during heavyweight television events like the Superbowl this Sunday, the Academy Awards, and the NCAA finals in March.
That's one hellava campaign eh?

Looks like they just going to
Looks like they just going to concentrate in America so us UK'ers wont get blitzed like we did with Windows Xp.
I still get nightmares from those adverts
Microsoft Search - Now Live and Direct
MSN Search launches, and those who have done their basic on-page search optimization are being rewarded with traffic. If you weren't prepared for it, it's not too late to start making changes.
Timing
Seems like they've launched at the right time, too - Google still seem to be continuing it's problems from December, and the way Google has a negative bias towards newer sites simply makes for less relevant SERPs.
Massive advertising for a free product - MSN Search
There's a certain irony that Microsoft has to use a great deal of non-Internet marketing to make people aware that it now has a new Search Engine. That came
interesting times ahead :)
I'm looking forward to watching how it all pans out - M$ with the huge marketing budget, G with the (arguably) better product and hearts'n'minds - it should be interesting.
Do ya reckon we'll see a M$ adsen....er, contextual advertising system for the masses, in place by the end of 2006?
MSN ads
MSN ads are already in development, but I'm not sure we can hold MS to a launch date. :)
With a big TV advertising push
I expect the demographic of MSN to be heavily consumer focussed. Just what people who want to monetize their traffic might be delighted by .. I would be quite happy to have millions of noddy users with credit cards in hand flooding my sites :O)
good
It is always good to have the market spread out a bit. I bet they end up sucking reach out of Yahoo more than Google, as they have closer demographics.
MSN does a lot better job than Y! in indexing dynamic stuff, so I can't complain.
