Google Builds Terminator

In a speech Friday night to the Annual American Association for the Advancement of Science conference, Google co-founder Larry Page stated that Google was developing Artificial Intelligence and that the company wasn't far off from completing real Artificial Intelligence.

I saw a blogger note: "on the 19th of the 2nd 2007 skynet was born.." on Digg or something...

SKYNET

I hear that is in the next Terminator movie... I can just picture Arnold standing in the window of Larry Page's office and Arnold laying into cop cars with a mini-gun.

Don't let NFFC see this

Don't let NFFC see this thread. Also, never mention the phrases "Terminator Scenario" or "camel jockeys" while he's anywhere in the room.

I no longer have any robot

I no longer have any robot fears, I'm ready.

>ready Better get your

>ready

Better get your bug-zapper ready, it ain't the BIG robots that'll get us.

Recipe:
1 - Take a cartload of nano-sized versions of these

2 - Infuse them with a healthy dose of swarm tech

3 - Put them under the control of something like G's AI, initially for use on a task like, say, cargo container inspection.

4 - Stir, wait for a rolling boil.

Of course, there is one way

Of course, there is one way to guarantee ou safety from robot armies : require them all to run WinAI.

In the event of a rebellion, we need only to push the "mandatory security upgrade" button, and all the cool lasers and missiles they mount will suddenly become useless as all the drivers break :)

By the time Skynet became

By the time Skynet became self-aware it had spread into millions of computer servers across the planet. Ordinary computers in office buildings, dorm rooms; everywhere. It was software; in cyberspace. There was no system core; it could not be shutdown. The attack began at 6:18 PM, just as he said it would. Judgment Day, the day the human race was almost destroyed by the weapons they'd built to protect themselves. I should have realized it was never our destiny to stop Judgment Day, it was merely to survive it, together. The Terminator knew; he tried to tell us, but I didn't want to hear it. Maybe the future has been written. I don't know; all I know is what the Terminator taught me; never stop fighting. And I never will. The battle has just begun.

Don't worry about it

Everyone will be fine *

Maybe I should remind everyone that Google is a "good" company and would never do anything "evil" or for the sake of profit. Ever. Now get your robot insurance and forget about it. We have plenty of months before anything irobot-ish happens.

* does not apply to blackhats, people who have even broken Google's quality guidelines, or John Connor.

The real question about AI

The real question about AI, IMO, is why people should seek to create it?

>why

>why

It'll write better blogs. (only being half-sarcastic)

Westworld meets HAL meets

Westworld meets HAL meets Terminator and with free Wi-Fi too.

Now that was funny:Larry

Now that was funny.

hope it's a better effort

hope it's a better effort than their search engine which is about as intelligent as my hoover.

AI

If they were really close to AI I think they might be able to put this line in the code somewhere

if ($searchTerm == "buy viagra" and $TLD == ".edu") then {$allowRank = false;}

Google bots
