Overture Keyword Tool Is Back Online

After launching the blogosphere in a crazy frenzy to find a replacement the Overture Keyword Suggestion tool is back online.

According to Yahoo this was just a temporally down time in order to upgrade the tool to a better version. High traffic had been taking the tool on and offline for the past couple of weeks.

Thank You

Thanks to your domain hunter it's been a great tool for me as well.

I don't understand their

I don't understand their high traffic claims. I'm sure they have a plethora of servers available. I know it's a free tool, but many of the users who use it also advertise with them, so why not bump up the load balancing on that tool?

Shawn lots of people pound

Shawn lots of people pound the piss out of that tool with scrapers. Its a great little tool and it gets a lot of use.

how is it great?

But it's accuracy is so bad, how can it be a great tool for you? Pretty much everything it tells you is completely wrong.

I use keyword discovery

After all the shoolagans with Overture I moved over to the keyword discovery API .. added some features like export to .CSV so people could actually use it..

But it's really a crap shoot.. Jill has a point.. but it's not just overture.. I think all of them are not really accurate...

Best Way To Get Data

Offer to pay site owners for their raw log files. You'd be surprised how quickly and cheaply they will let that data go. I bought a whole year's worth of log files from a gadget site for 20 bucks.

The pieces are important when the puzzle is complete

As a stand-alone I recognize that Overture's data isn't the best. However, the real value is as a piece of a larger set of KW data...combine it with 3-4 more sources and you'll be able to normalize the data and see trends as they are occuring, while filtering out the noise generated by Overture KW tool spammers. The same goes for Wordtracker data...okay as a stand-alone, great when lumped in with Overture, Trellian, and others.

Other examples of the same being true can be found with using certain affiliate networks, certain PPC networks, etc. Most of these things are decent when used alone, but fantastic when you have a strategy that encompasses many sources.

Accuracy

But it's accuracy is so bad,

Accuracy is not the reason it's valuable to me - it's the *precision*. It doesn't matter if it is giving out flawed data as long as that data is consistently flawed.

But it's accuracy is so bad,

Its great for qualitative analysis.

Relativity

If all the suggested words that appear on the page are all relative to each other, no matter what the specific number is of each listing, its a great tool. You are still able to get an 'idea' of word variations and their popularity.

Bidtool Gone?

Does anyone know if this is also down for maintanance or if it is gone for good?
