RALEIGH, N.C. - Search engine giant Google Inc. plans to spend $600 million to build a data center in North Carolina, state officials and the company said Friday.
Founders Note:
Nice to have cash laying around for asset allocations like this.

Don't forget MSN
Wasn't Microsoft also building a $550 million data center in Texas? I like seeing both of them pony up some investment for the future.
Edit: Found the Microsoft portion here
Conspiracy Theorists...
Rejoice! Cringely has a good write-up on what he thinks Google is doing with all the resources they're buying up.

It is beautiful around here and having lived but a stones throw from Mountain View in Calif for 10 years I must say that anyone who is into a peaceful life will love it here.

I thought cringely's article
I thought cringely's article was bizarre, his whole argument is based on this paragraph.
So google is going to start this whole experiment he is predicting in south carolina? Not really the normal the way they work. Why would the idea of it just being an east coast datacenter be so odd?
