NEW YORK (Reuters) - News Corp.'s Fox, Viacom Inc., CBS Corp.. and NBC Universal are in talks about creating a video Web site to compete with Google Inc.'s YouTube, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.

While a deal is still far off, the four media companies envision a jointly owned site that would be the primary Web source for videos from their television networks, the paper said in an online report on wsj.com, citing people close to the situation.

The companies aim to cash in on the fast-growing market of Web video advertising and have also discussed building a Web video player that could play clips, the Journal said.

How about RIAATube? Or

How about RIAATube? Or DMATube? How about WatchCommercials.com?

One thing is certain. They will spend a good deal of change if they try.

When is the last time you saw a rep

When is the last time you saw a representative from one of these dinosaurs at a search marketing conference? ROFL

lol how's about they begin with a SE?

Finally some big names recognize google's potential. Let's hope to God this will serve to push google to come out with even more and better services. Other than going the way around...

Thank you

Yawn

It's just a kneejerk reaction to getting their corporate clock cleaned and since they don't "get it" in the first place it will be doomed to failure.

Failure...Don't think so.

A portal for TV content is best run by the guys with the libraries. Pretty logical move I think.

I guess more of these will be coming out soon. Amazing AOL/Time Warner has not started one.

Disney next I reckon.

SEOs

Isn't Myspace part of NewsCorp which owns FOX? They've done pretty well since they were bought out 18 months ago.

Has MySpace done well? When

Has MySpace done well? When I talk to friends who were on it, many no longer go there and some have even deleted accounts due to flood of spam.

CBS pointing viewers to Innertube

You can now view most of CBS prime time material online at Innertube and Fox is pushing viewers to their MyFox.com network of local sites.
I think they kind of get it but they live on bureaucratic barges and are slow off the pier. For instance didn't Yahoo! just buy MetaCafe? That would have worked and they could have picked it up cheap.

I don't know Aaron. I'll defer to people who do. I just used it as an example because it still is Alexa #5 and wall street are wetting their pants over it.

They obviously know how to make a site popular, no matter what happens after today.

How long it will take the dinosaurs to register a domain name

I am just wondering how long it will take the dinosaurs to even get to the point of registering a domain name?

LOL!
