Search is Stagnant
Here's a pretty insightful article on the current state of search and some thoughts on future possibilities / probabilities from some guy named Jason.
"Search and specifically searching the internet is stagnant, the basic principles of how content is scored and evaluated hasn't moved much beyond counting links on web pages...The Search Engines of tomorrow must also not forget that the web aint everything on the Internet!

Thats a really interesting perspective.
Loved the article - it really makes you think about the way the engines behave now and how the future may look if they ever step back and look at the possibilities.
The search engine of
I'm just not sure that's possible ... at least from a single search engine. What we'll continue to see I think is more efficient niche- geo- cultural- targeted search tools. Personalized search too could be interesting to watch. And of course social collaboration. But I could be wrong as I often am and we'll see google evolve to be all things to all people on earth.
One problem I had w/ the article though was the pagination - 10 pages of short paragraphs. Put it all on a page, man, nothin' wrong with some scrolling!
How far can search actually go though?
I don't believe technology has been developed yet where you connect something up to your brain and then whatever your thinking a search engine like Google serves you up with relevant sites, based on your thoughts. Now that's the next step!
It's not like comparing say the web hosting industry where in 10 years time things will be changing dramatically when technology gets better and advances will be made on technology.
Search will always remain just that. Based on keywords. Search engines just need to get better with serving you up with relevant stuff, but they do a pretty damn good job at the moment when you look at the bigger picture.

Search is still about page views, eh Jason? ;-)
Bet he wouldn't say search
Bet he wouldn't say search is stagnant if the next algo update wiped out his rankings. :)
Bet he wouldn't say search
Bet he would :)
Points taken on pages. Will adapt and probably change the CMS. Do you all agree or disagree about search and its state of non flux though ?
